Household Waste
Recycling can start at home. Many homes around the UK now have 3 bins. These are usually black, blue and brown.
The blue bin is used for various things such as plastic bottles, glass jars and bottles, and drinks cans.
The brown bin is for cardboard, paper or food. Next time you have some leftover food, don't throw it into the black bin, put it into the blue bin instead. Things like tea bags can also be put here as well as newspapers, junk mail, yellow pages, envelopes (except windowed envelopes).
The black bin is used for general household waste which cannot be placed in the other 2 bins.
Most councils have an 'every other week' collection policy. Basically this means that the black bin will be collected one week, but the following week the blue and brown bins will be collected instead.
So if you want to help the environment, take care of how you dispose of household waste. If something can be recycled, please try and do so by placing items in the correct bins.
